After over two years, fan-favourite anime series ‘Overlord’ is finally set to return with season 4, alongside a new original movie!

As is the nature of adapting novels or manga, anime fans are used to long breaks between seasons but after a certain amount of time, they start to worry about potential cancellations.

It’s been over two years since season 3 of the hit dark fantasy anime ‘Overlord’ concluded, but fans finally know what the future has in stock!

Will there be a season 4 of Overlord?

  • It’s good news for fans of Overlord, the hit anime has been renewed for season 4.

When the third season of Overlord concluded back in October 2018, not many of us would have thought we would go two years without any news about the fourth season.

That being said, fans of Overlord are already used to long hiatus’ between seasons, so this is not necessarily surprising.

Thankfully, it was officially confirmed on May 8th that the anime series would return with season 4.

However, not many fans were surprised by this news, especially following the 2019 AnimagiC convention, when scriptwriter Kugane Maruyama revealed that season 4 was “extremely likely” to be produced.

Overlord season 4 release date…

Whilst Overlord was officially renewed, there is no information that indicates when season 4 would release.

Assuming that season 4 will experience a similar production schedule to previous instalments, fans can expect the anime to return in Fall 2021.

Overlord anime movie…

Alongside the announcement concerning season 4, it was officially confirmed that Overlord would recieve an anime movie.

The staff and production team are yet to be confirmed, but many are expected to reprise their roles from the anime series.

The Overlord movie has not received an initial release date, but it was confirmed that it would adapt the Holy Kingdom Arc.

Iseki Quartet season 3…

Whilst Overlord is yet to return with season 4, its crossover series Iseki Quartet has been renewed for a third season.

Iseki Quartet is arguably the best crossover series in the world, with characters from Overlord, KonoSuba, Re:Zero and Tanya the Evil all interacting brilliantly.

A third season was confirmed last year, so whilst it may be a while before we get an Overlord original anime return, at least we get to see more Ainz content once again soon.
