It finally happened – Willian scored for Arsenal!

The Brazilian joined the Gunners from London rivals Chelsea last summer, but he’s endured a pretty dismal first season at the Emirates.

On Sunday, Willian was given a rare Premier League start against West Bromwich Albion, and played a key role in the opener as he found Bukayo Saka, who crossed for Emile Smith Rowe to score.

Nicolas Pepe added a second, and when Matheus Pereira scored a stunning solo goal for the Baggies, Willian just had to outdo his fellow Brazilian.

Willian whipped an inch-perfect free-kick past Sam Johnstone and into the net, finally scoring his first Arsenal goal at the 37th time of asking.

Even outside of the goal, Willian was decent in this game; he linked up well with Bukayo Saka down the left flank.

Some may feel that it’s too little, too late for Willian after a poor season, but supporters took to Twitter to praise the man brought to North London by Edu.

Willian was hailed as ‘actually better than Martinelli’ and was praised for having his best game in an Arsenal shirt yet.

Others felt he was ‘actually class’ and earned praise for his work rate too, with fans maybe starting to feel like he isn’t a lost cause at Arsenal after all…

Here are some of the reactions from Gunners fans after Willian’s display last night.
