We all know Georginio Wijnaldum has had his critics among Liverpool fans this season.
Not only has the Dutch midfielder struggled for form this season, like most of his Liverpool team-mates it has to be said.
But the 30-year-old is refusing to sign a new deal at Anfield and now looks set to leave the club on a free transfer next month.
However, there’s no denying Wijnaldum’s ability and he gave a demonstration of his quality before Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Southampton last night.
During the warm up, the former Newcastle midfielder scored a ridiculous Gianfranco Zola-type volley which sailed into the top corner from a cross.
Here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to the goal on Twitter:
A lot more Liverpool supporters are angry with him but it’s borne out of frustration, frustration that they’re on the cusp of losing a massive player.
Wijnaldum has played a huge role in the Reds’ Premier League and Champions League success over the past two years and make no bones about it, Jurgen Klopp will miss him.
Liverpool need to sign a few midfielders this summer, given that Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain seem likely to leave after struggling for first-team football for most of the season.
But Wijnaldum is one figure that Klopp won’t want to replace, such has been his importance.
