Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has told BBC Sport just why Arsenal-owned Joe Willock is playing so well at the moment.

Willock, signed on loan from Arsenal in the January transfer window, found the back of the net for Newcastle in their 4-2 win against Leicester City on Friday evening.

The 21-year-old midfielder scored in the 22nd minute of the Premier League game at the King Power Stadium.

Willock has scored five goals in 11 Premier League matches for Newcastle this season.

Bruce told BBC Sport about Willock: He’s enjoying his football. We have taken the reins off him and let him run forward and that was probably what we didn’t have enough of in January, that forward-running midfielder who likes to score. We’d love to keep him but he has got a big future.”

The midfielder will have to work extremely hard to get into the Arsenal first team next season, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle are able to extend his loan spell.

One suspects that Willock would love to be a success at Arsenal in the long run, but the youngster should also consider the fact that he may not be able to play regularly for Mikel Arteta’s team.

Staying at Newcastle on loan for next season and developing his game would not be a bad idea for Willock.
