According to Goal.com, Arsenal are interested in signing Andre Onana in the summer transfer window.
The report has claimed that Arenal will wait for the verdict in Onana’s upcoming appeal against a doping ban before making an offer to Ajax.
The Cameroon international, who is reportedly valued at £12 million by Ajax, is serving a 12-month suspension handed to him by UEFA which is due to last until February 2022.
The report has added that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear the appeal in early June and will give their verdict later that month.
Reported interest in Onana from Arsenal is bad news for Runar Alex Runarsson. If the Gunners bring the 25-year-old to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window, then Runarsson is pretty much finished at the club.
Runarsson joined Arsenal last summer after leaving Dijon. The 26-year-old was supposed to be a replacement for Emiliano Martinez, who had left for Aston Villa.
However, when the January transfer window opened, Arsenal went and signed Mat Ryan on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Australia international goalkeeper has done well when he has been called into action, and it is very likely that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will make his loan deal permanent this summer.
If Onana joins Arsenal this summer, then it would leave Runarsson as the fourth-choice goalkeeper at the Gunners.
The Iceland international has played just 16 minutes in the Premier League and featured four times in the Europa League this campaign.
The performances of the 26-year-old have not been very impressive, and one should not be surprised if Arsenal are already planning to severe ties with the goalkeeper and offload him this summer.
