Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared Arsenal’s plan to replace Dani Ceballos this summer after he returns to Real Madrid.
The journalist claimed last week that Ceballos is set to return to Real Madrid at the end of the season, and as you can imagine, that means that Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder.
The Gunners apparently want a player who is quite different to Ceballos, with Romano claiming they want someone with strength and experience.
“About Ceballos, he is 100 per cent coming back to Real Madrid. I think he will be sold or loaned to another club, but he won’t stay at Arsenal because they are planning for a different type of midfielder. They want something different from Ceballos, they want experience and strength in the midfield, so something different to Ceballos, so Ceballos will be back at Real Madrid,” Romano said.
Strength and experience are two vitally important attributes for a midfielder.
However, the question has to be asked, if that’s what Mikel Arteta wants, why did he even bother bringing Ceballos back this season?
The Spaniard ticks neither of those boxes and it seems as though there’s something of a disconnect between the team’s tactics and the club’s recruitment.
It remains to be seen which midfielder Arsenal go for, but at least we now know which attributes they’re looking for.
