The first season of Tower of God was nothing short of a masterpiece, but will the anime return for season 2 on Crunchyroll and if so, when?
It has been a superb summer for anime and one new series that will live long in the memory of many fans is Tower of God.
A fantastic storyline and great characters, all wrapped up in gorgeous visuals had us looking forward to every single episode.
The first season of Tower of God was incredible, but now fans are wondering when the series will return for season 2.
Tower of God season 2: Renewal status
- At the time of writing, Tower of God has not been officially renewed for season 2, but it’s highly likely that the anime will return to Crunchyroll.
Whilst the official viewing numbers for the Crunchyroll original series are not publically available, Tower of God’s popularity is pretty evident – with the anime currently scoring 7.8/10 on IMDB, 7.62/10 on MyAnimeList and 4.7/5 on Crunchyroll.
“The fan reaction to Tower of God has been incredible and inspiring. We’re so happy the audience loves Bam’s story as much as we do! You’ll have to check out the series yourself to see how far we follow Bam up the Tower in season one!” – Carter Hahnselle, Crunchyroll Director of Brand and Title Marketing.
There is also plenty of source material left to use, with enough chapter left for at least one more if not two more seasons.
The future of the series was unclear for a time when the manhwa’s author Lee Jong-hui a.k.a. SIU, announced that he was taking a break from the series.
However, it has recently been revealed that the series will return to WEBTOON this summer.
Tower of God season 2: Release date
With no official confirmation that Tower of God will return, there is no information on a potential release date for season 2. Unfortunately, it seems like Crunchyroll are playing their cards close to their chest with this series.
Speaking to Anime News Network earlier in the year, Carter Hahnselle said: “I can’t share too much more beyond that right now, but again we’re so glad that fans all over the world have been enjoying the show.”
If season 2 does get the greenlight from Crunchyroll and the animation studio can start working in the upcoming months, fans can expect it to premiere sometime in fall-2021.
However, it is worth considering that there still may be a knock-on effect on production because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, so a winter-2021 return is more realistic.
Tower of God season 2: Plot
The plot for Tower of God season 2 is expected to continue from season 1 and introduce two new protagonists, Jue Viole Grace and Ja Wangnan.
We wouldn’t want to give away any of the major spoilers from the manhwa series, but fans will be glad to hear that there is lots of awesome canon material left to adapt.
If you would like to read the Webtoon yourself, you can find all volumes here.
