Caitlyn Jenner took part in her first televised interview since announcing that she would be running for governor of California.
During the interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity, Caitlyn stated: “For me as a trans woman, I think role models are extremely important for young people.”
However, she stated that trans girls should not be allowed to play women’s sports.
Caitlyn also answered questions on this topic when stopped by a TMZ reporter on her way to her car, and said that “it just isn’t fair” for trans girls to compete in women’s sports at school.
However, people were quick to point out that Caitlyn has previously played women’s golf.
Caitlin Jenner says trans girls should be banned from women’s sports
Caitlyn Jenner told a TMZ reporter that she is against “biological boys” competing in girls’ sports in schools.
During the clip, Caitlyn says: “This is a question of fairness. That’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school. It just isn’t fair. And we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools.”
Caitlyn shared the interview on her Twitter account, and captioned it:
“I didn’t expect to get asked this on my Saturday morning coffee run, but I’m clear about where I stand. It’s an issue of fairness and we need to protect girls’ sports in our schools.”
Caitlyn Jenner accused of hypocrisy after competing in women’s golf
People have been quick to point out that this statement differs from Caitlyn’s previous remarks on trans women in sports. During her 2015 Arthur Ashe award speech, Caitlyn Jenner said:
“I also want to acknowledge all the young trans athletes who are out there given the chance to play sports as who they really are.”
Caitlyn has also competed in women’s sports herself. In 2016 she competed in the ANA Inspiration Pro-Am in Rancho Mirage, California.
Twitter user Katelyn Burns shared a screenshot of an article headline from 2016 which read: “Caitlyn Jenner to compete in women’s golf tournament.”
She captioned it: “Something tells me she doesn’t really believe the things she says to try to get Republicans to vote for her.”
One user tweeted: “Caitlyn Jenner’s opposition to trans girls playing sports did not prevent her from playing in a women’s golf tournament.”
Another said: “Caitlyn Jenner is against trans people in sports yet plays golf tournaments from the women’s tee’s.”
