If Arsenal are after a goalkeeper – and reports certainly suggest they are – is there a chance their new number one could be their old number one?
With Wojciech Szczesny facing an uncertain future at Juventus, the new-found availability of one of the most divisive modern-day Arsenal players has sparked plenty of debate in the red half of north London.
And there’s no shortage of Gunners fans who would welcome Szczesny back with open arms. Especially if Juventus are willing to sell the Poland international for a bargain £10 million (TuttoJuve).
Now, the Szczesny who left Arsenal for a loan spell at Roma six years ago is a very different goalkeeper to the one who has lifted three Serie A titles at Juventus, all the while striding confidently out of Gigi Buffon’s lengthy shadow at the Allianz Stadium.
At 31, Szczesny is now a more experienced, well-rounded footballer and, perhaps more importantly, a more mature character. The headlines these days focus on his gravity-defying saves rather than his favourite brand of smokes.

Bernd Leno, Arsenal’s current first-choice shot-stopper, hasn’t exactly boosted his reputation among one of England’s most passionate fanbases, hinting at a future away from the Emirates just days before that horror blunder against Everton.
And, should Leno depart, it appears Szczesny would be a popular replacement, according to a number of Arsenal fans.
Here’s what some of them had to say on Twitter about the situation:
