According to FC Inter News, Liverpool have made contact with Mino Raiola over a deal for Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij.

The 29-year-old has proposals on the table from Jürgen Klopp’s side, as well as from Barcelona.

FC Inter News claim that Raiola recently sat down with the 43-cap Netherlands international to discuss an issue with his previous agency, SEG.

The report then mentions that Liverpool and Barcelona have submitted proposals to Raiola, but De Vrij is happy to stay at Inter Milan.

Regardless of that, Raiola is a man who often moves his clients around, so we could still see some activity on this front.

Additionally, De Vrij is a player who surely wouldn’t need much time to gel with the Liverpool squad.

Why? Well, his Netherlands teammate Virgil van Dijk is already at Anfield, and there is clear admiration for the Reds No.4 from De Vrij.

Speaking back in March 2020, the Inter Milan No.6 said that it’s always nice to play alongside the £75 million man.

De Vrij also called Van Dijk a ‘very strong’ defender who is a ‘good person’ on and off the pitch.

Football Oranje quote him as saying: “He is a strong defender. I can learn from him. On and off the pitch he is a good person. It is always nice to play alongside him.”

If Klopp could get the pair of them in the same backline, it would surely be of benefit to Liverpool as there is already a chemistry between them.

While this deal makes sense, it’s one that Liverpool should ignore, in our view.

De Vrij is 29, so he wouldn’t be a long-term fix to Liverpool’s problems by any means.

The Reds would be much better off investing their money in Ibrahima Konate, the 21-year-old RB Leipzig centre-back.

The Athletic revealed Liverpool were finalising that deal back in March.

In signing a player of that age, Klopp would have a long-term option at the back to parter Joe Gomez, when the likes of Joel Matip and Van Dijk reach their mid-thirties.
