Arsenal fans have been left angry after Mikel Arteta’s latest comments about Reiss Nelson, which were made to Football London.

Nelson has barely played for Arsenal all season, with just nine appearances to his name.

Arteta has not picked Nelson to feature at all since January, with the youngster’s future seemingly firmly up in the air.

But Arteta has come out and spoken about the youngster now, saying that he feels sorry for him.

He said: “With Reiss I would like to give him more.

“He’s a boy who trains really hard, he wants to do extra all the time but it’s very difficult at the moment with the players that we have to fit him. I feel sorry that we don’t have other competitions to use him because he deserves more. If he doesn’t play more it’s my fault.”

Unfortunately for Arteta his explanation has not gone down well with Arsenal supporters, who are frustrated that the winger hasn’t been given more game time.

Arteta’s regular usage of the struggling Willian has created great annoyance among Arsenal supporters.

And it seems to continue to anger Arsenal fans that Willian is being given game time over Arteta, when the Gunners manager seems to be suggesting that there is no way he could get the winger into his squad.

Nelson may get a chance before the end of the campaign, as Arsenal’s season effectively hinges on the Europa League now.

But there must be some degree of concern over whether the 21-year-old will stick around for much longer than that, without first-team football.

Nelson clearly has a high level of ability, but after sitting on the sidelines for so long, he will surely want Arsenal to provide him with more chances if he is to stick around.
