Who plays Black Panther in Black Panther 2? Let’s get the Wakanda Forever cast explained. Is Chadwick Boseman in the sequel?

Since the MCU began with Jon Favreau’s Iron Man back in 2008, we have witnessed the arrival of so many beloved comic book characters on screen.

The four Avengers movies are amongst the most ambitious blockbusters ever made, but there have been some immensely popular stand-alone efforts too.

From Captain America: The Winter Soldier to Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel Studios has approached numerous genres to help sculpt a diverse cinematic universe, tackling everything from comedy to espionage.

However, many would declare 2018’s Black Panther as the most important of the bunch.

Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman as the titular hero, the movie was a phenomenon like few others in recent memory. Fans recently received an update on the sequel too, but who plays Black Panther in Black Panther 2?

Who plays Black Panther in Black Panther 2?

  • The role of T’Challa will not be recast and Chadwick Boseman’s likeness will not be digitally inserted into the movie. As of yet, the sequel’s narrative remains under wraps and it’s uncertain which character – if any – may take up the mantle of Black Panther.

The movie has officially been titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but little else is known about the project.

Curiosity about the central cast stems from Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing at the age of 43 in August 2020.

Although a sequel to Black Panther had been confirmed in October 2018, plans were put on hold after he passed from cancer.

However, a video titled Marvel Studios Celebrates The Movies was unveiled in April 2021 and has confirmed that the sequel is official.

Chadwick Boseman and the Black Panther sequel

Although Chadwick won’t be in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it has already been confirmed that the movie will honour the actor’s legacy.

Marvel Studios’ EVP – Victoria Alonso – has addressed in a statement:

“There’s only one Chadwick and he’s not with us. Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honour this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really.”

Additionally, Kevin Feige weighed in: “So much of the comics and that first movie is the world of Wakanda. Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures. This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story. We’re not going to have a CG Chadwick and we’re not recasting T’Challa.”

Although it’s uncertain at this point, it’s likely that an existing character will step up to the challenge of becoming the next Black Panther in the forthcoming sequel.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever release date

The movie is scheduled for release on Friday, July 8th 2022.

It is set to be the seventh installment of the MCU’s Phase Four.
