Thierry Henry has confirmed on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that he has joined a consortium, led by Spotify founder Daniel Ek, to buy Arsenal.

The Highbury legend shared that Ek told him that he wants to ‘involve the fans’ if he is able to buy Arsenal and ‘inject the Arsenal DNA back into the club’.

Ek has made it public that he wants to buy Arsenal from the Kroenke’s, and the Swedish billionaire has the backing of the fans given how they feel about their current American owners.

He also has the backing of the club legends, with Henry joined by Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira as part of the proposed takeover.

Either way, Henry’s comments about Ek wanting to buy Arsenal will be music to the ears of the supporters.

“I know a lot of people wanted to hear about it, it is true,” said Henry. “Daniel is an Arsenal fan. He didn’t say that for any publicity. He is an Arsenal fan for a very long time.

“He approached us. We listened to him. When we knew, first and foremost, that he wanted to involve the fans then we met the Arsenal Supporters Trust. We told them what we wanted to do.

“To bring them back on board. Make them part of the meetings and knowing what’s happening. You need to put the DNA back into the club.

“He wants to inject the Arsenal DNA back into the club, which for me, is long gone. You don’t have Arsenal people there amongst the board, which might show the right direction.

“But that’s what Daniel wants to do. He has already reached out. He already said he has collected the funds to put a good bid. Now, they need to listen – he wants to make sure the team is what it used to be.”

It’s now a case of the Kroenke’s listening and then ultimately selling the club.

That will be the big worry from the Arsenal supporters that their owners won’t sell, even if Ek is genuine about his bid and puts in a more than reasonable offer.

If they don’t then the protests, prior to the Everton game a fortnight ago, will only grow louder and more ferocious.

And scenes at Old Trafford on Sunday, which saw Manchester United’s game against Liverpool postponed, will only transfer its way to North London because the Arsenal fans share the exact same feelings towards their owners, just as the United fans feel about the Glazers.
