Megan always had a close relationship with her mom, Holly Thomas, since she was inspired by her to start rapping, who rapped under the name “Holly-Wood”.

She would watch her write in her room and go to the studio with her when she got off work. In an interview with Strahan, Sara and Keke, she admitted, “I thought everybody’s mom was rapping!”

When Megan hit the big time, her mom became her manager.

According to Oprah Daily, the rapper announced the passing on March 22, 2019 through a now-deleted Instagram post captioned, “The best mom in the whole world. The strongest woman on the planet, I can’t even put complete sentences together rn RIP mama.”

How did Megan Thee Stallion’s mom pass away?

She clarified that the cause of death was a long standing cancerous brain tumour, after ex-NFL player Larry Johnson accused her of a hoax, since the tragedy coincided around the same time as she gained popularity.

Sadly, her grandmother passed away shortly after, during the same month, and her father died when Megan was a teenager. All these family losses has motivated her to succeed in the music industry and complete her studies at Texas Southern University in health administration – she will graduate in fall 2021.
