Rangers have announced that they have signed up Andy Firth to a brand-new contract.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has inked a one-year extension to stay at Ibrox until the summer of 2022 at least.

Firth was due to be released by Rangers over the coming months but it would appear as if Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson have been impressed enough to keep him for another year.

Gerrard worked with the player at Liverpool and brought him to Ibrox in January of 2019.

This is clearly a man who the Rangers boss has a bit of faith in, despite not playing him all that often.

Firth has only managed to make the bench in four of the Gers’ Scottish Premiership games this season, having only played the once since arriving in Glasgow.

But the fact that Gerrard has worked with him in the past and has just decided to keep him until 2022 indicates that the 40-year-old isn’t ready to sever ties.
