Some Arsenal fans on Twitter are urging Konstantinos Mavropanos to ‘come home’ but a report from Football London this week suggested that a return may not be on the cards.
The 23-year-old, who joined Arsenal in the winter of 2018, has impressed in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart after leaving the North Londoners on loan last summer.
With David Luiz out of contract with the Gunners this summer and William Saliba’s future uncertain, there may be room for a centre-back of Mavropanos’s quality.
Edu and Mikel Arteta didn’t rate him last summer but his experience of being a first-team player in Germany’s top flight is likely to stand him in good stead.
But Football London reported earlier this week that he’s either leaving the Emirates Stadium on a permanent basis or will be loaned out again this summer.
The big Greek defender, who stands at 6’4, posted a photo of himself in training on Wednesday.
And here’s how some Arsenal fans responded to Mavropanos:
At this stage it seems unlikely that Mavropanos will have much of a future with the Gunners, it has to be said.
And it’s a bit of a shame when you consider how much promise he has shown, particularly under Wenger during his early days.
Within months of joining Arsenal, Wenger played him in a trip to Manchester United and Mavropanos did impress on that occasion.
But he hasn’t fared well under either of Wenger’s predecessors – Unai Emery or Arteta – and at this point it seems like an exit is on the cards.
