West Ham United are interested in Tammy Abraham but Simon Jordan believes the Chelsea striker won’t leave Stamford Bridge to link up with David Moyes’ side, speaking to talkSPORT (29 April, 10.40am).
If the England international was holding out for a fresh start under Thomas Tuchel, those dreams died a brutal death this week.
Abraham played just three minutes in Saturday’s crunch clash with West Ham, was left on the bench at Real Madrid and will have woken this morning to reports claiming Romelu Lukaku could be heading back to London in a deal worth £90 million (Sun).
So, with TEAMtalk mentioning West Ham, Newcastle and Wolves as potential destinations, it looks increasingly as though Abraham will have to leave his Stamford Bridge home to kick-start his stalling career.
But, according to former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, the London Stadium won’t be his destination.
“I don’t think he’ll go to West Ham United. I think he’ll have different aspirations, with all due respect to West Ham,” Jordan says.
This week, The Telegraph reported Chelsea will demand £40 million for Abraham.
And Jordan believes if the transfer market hadn’t been altered by the pandemic, we could be talking about a fee closer to £70 million for that most rare of beasts – a prolific, home-grown centre-forward.
“First of all, Chelsea won’t be under any economic pressure to do anything,” he adds, while backing Tuchel’s decision to leave Abraham out of the team.
“If he played in Chelsea’s side, I think he’d score more goals than Timo Werner. But the problem is no-one can argue with Chelsea right now because this guy (Tuchel) has come in and hit the ground running. They may well win the FA Cup, they may well win the Champions League, all without Tammy Abraham.
“So there’s no argument we can put forward to suggest Tammy Abraham may be someone Chelsea would be missing.”
It’s no secret West Ham are desperate for a new number nine.
Securing Champions League football, at Chelsea’s expense no less, would do their chances of a deal for Abraham no harm at all.
