Celtic’s £12 million asking price could scupper Norwich City’s hopes of bringing Kristoffer Ajer to the Premier League during the summer transfer window, as reported by the Glasgow Times.
Gone are the days when Celtic could command a fee in the region of £25 million for their lanky Norwegian centre-back.
Like Odsonne Edouard, Ajer has just over 12 months left on his contract and his market value reflects that fact.
The Glasgow Times report that Celtic will ask for a bargain £12 million this summer. Hardly an arresting sum but something is better than nothing. And there is a very real chance, as it stands, that Ajer will leave Parkhead for exactly that – nothing.
You would imagine, then, that bids will be actively encouraged this summer.
But while newly-promoted Norwich are big fans of the versatile 23-year-old, with the Sun reporting that diamond-spotting director Stuart Webber has been watching closely, there is a rather sizeable obstacle that must be overcome before Ajer is pulling on that yellow and green kit.
Norwich are ‘unlikely’ to stump up the £12 million Celtic want. Such a fee would see Ajer replace Steven Naismith as the most expensive signing in the club’s history.
Celtic have already knocked around £10 million off Ajer’s price tag over the last year or so and it remains to be seen if they will accept a further reduction.
