Guido Rodriguez is flattered by reported interest from Arsenal and Liverpool but, speaking to Radio Marca, the Argentina international has hinted at a long-term stay at Real Betis.
If you were wondering what all the fuss was about, this suddenly in-demand midfielder certainly picked the right time to prove he belongs at the highest level.
In March, Estadio Deportivo reported Arsenal and Liverpool had both shown an interest in Rodriguez.
The Gunners even went as far as to make contact with the Argentinian in an attempt to ascertain how he would feel about swapping the Estadio Benito Villamarin for the Emirates.
And, on Saturday, the former River Plate enforcer showed exactly why two of England’s biggest clubs are circling.
The hard-fought draw keeps Betis in contention for a Europa League place next term. And, while Rodriguez is pleased to see his fine performances aren’t going unnoticed, his immediate future appears to lie in Andalusia.
“I live very calmly. I am focused on Betis, I am very happy,” says the Albiceleste ace, who has a £69 million release clause in his contract.
“It is an honour that people speak well of me but, being intelligent, I have to continue doing the same, concentrating on Betis and what I have to do in each game.

“I am confident in the project that is being put together. I am happy in the club and in the city. I would love to play in Europe with Betis.
“When I arrived (from Club America) it was difficult, especially since I came from the Mexican league. I arrived in the middle of the season and it was difficult for me to get into the rhythm of the game.
“Now I know all my teammates and what they can do on the field, I am adapting.”
Rodriguez is one a number of midfielders linked with a Liverpool side scouring the market for a potential Gini Wijnaldum replacement.
At Arsenal, meanwhile, Rodriguez would represent a sizeable upgrade on the likes of Mo Elneny.
