Adam Crafton has said on the Ornstein and Chapman podcast that he’s hearing Tottenham Hotspur are not in for any huge name players this summer.
Tottenham face a big transfer window, after what has been a rather disappointing season to date.
However, any Spurs fans with high expectations over high profile stars arriving may be left disappointed.
Instead, it may be that Tottenham look to find solid players, who can upgrade their squad slightly, due to their budgetary constraints.
“Certainly from what I’m hearing is that the sort players they are looking at this summer aren’t the kind of players that are going to radically transform them into one of the best teams in Europe again,” Crafton said.
“They are looking seriously at Joachim Andersen at Fulham. A good player, but he’s not going to change their world again in the way Virgil van Dijk did at Liverpool.”
Andersen could indeed be a positive signing for Tottenham, but he certainly isn’t a transformative one.
The Dane would be in the mould of Pierre Emile Hojbjerg – as a Premier League proven player, who could occupy a function in their team.
Hojbjerg has been one of Tottenham’s top performers this term, certainly in the first half of the season, so that is no slight on the Fulham loanee.
However, the days of seeing Tottenham chase after players of Paulo Dybala’s quality may be gone, at least for a few more transfer windows yet.
The news that Spurs are looking at finding value for money signings also makes their next manager’s job appear even tougher.
Spurs clearly need quality injected into their team, but without serious funding, it will be hugely challenging for Spurs to climb back into the top four, if they miss out again this season, which looks increasingly likely.
