Liverpool fans have been left concerned after it was announced by the Premier League that Michael Oliver will be in charge of their game against Manchester United on Sunday.

Liverpool are set to take on the Red Devils in a match of great importance to their season at the weekend.

If the Reds fail to win their top four hopes may well be practically extinguished.

However, a victory would put Jurgen Klopp’s side right up in contention.

Unfortunately many Liverpool supporters’ hopes of victory seem to have taken a knock today, after the announcement of the officials.

Oliver was in charge of Liverpool’s derby match against Everton earlier this season, which passed with great controversy.

Oliver admitted after the game that he should have sent Jordan Pickford off for a tackle on Virgil van Dijk, which has left him sidelined for the season (Sky).

He was also in charge of their game when they were battered 4-1 by Manchester City at Anfield.

Oliver was not at fault for that defeat, of course, as Liverpool were simply outclassed, but it does mean that the Reds’ record when he has been in charge of their games this season looks fairly poor.

Klopp’s side go into the game on the back of a disappointing draw with Newcastle United.

Liverpool will surely be looking to bounce back, but to beat United they will have to improve greatly.

Solskjaer’s side have proven a tough nut to crack this season, and currently occupy second spot in the Premier League table.
