Paul Ince has said on Sky Sports Football (1:31pm, April 25, 2021) that Leeds United full-back Luke Ayling should be considered for a place in the England squad.

The former Liverpool and England international midfielder, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has said that it is a shame that there are so many full-backs for the Three Lions.

Ince believes that England head coach Gareth Southgate should take a look at Ayling, who has made the right-back spot in the Leeds team his own.

The Englishman said on Sky Sports Football (1:31pm, April 25, 2021): “I like Luke Ayling. He has been on one hell of a journey. He is so important for Leeds. He has been fantastic.

“I was saying to Jimmy beforehand it’s a shame we have got so many great England full-backs at the moment because I would like to see Gareth have a look at him.

“He is up and down the field, he is energetic, he has got a great spirit about him, great character. I think he is so important to Leeds also.”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is also a big fan of Ayling, and said on Sky Sports Football (2pm, April 25, 2021): “Well, he is an ever-present this season for Leeds, but I think he has been one of the standout players, not just in his position, but certainly in the Premier League this season.”

Luke Ayling for England?

Ayling is at the top of his game, and the 29-year-old is flourishing under Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

The 29-year-old has been on the books of Leeds since 2016 and has helped them win promotion to the Premier League.

The former Arsenal youngster works hard for the team and is tactually very astute.

However, with England blessed with right-backs, it is hard to see Southgate include Ayling in his squad for the European Championship this summer.

Even Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold could not get into the last England squad.
