Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has told Leeds Live that Arsenal are the only ‘big six’ team who they have managed to dominate this season.
Leeds met Arsenal back at Elland Road in November, and they were massively on top in the contest.
Leeds could only manage a 0-0 draw against Mikel Arteta’s men, but they took 25 shots in a game where Arsenal were kept on the back foot for much of the contest.
Bielsa is a manager who loves to smother teams, but that approach didn’t always work in the early part of the season.
Leeds slipped to heavy defeats against some of the Premier League’s most dangerous teams.
However, in recent weeks they have gone unbeaten against Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United, which shows some level of improvement.
Although Bielsa admits that Arsenal are the only team who they have managed to really get on top of since promotion.
“In none of these games against these ‘Big Six’ sides, apart from the game against Arsenal, were we able to predominantly dominate to be able to go and win the game,” he said.
“But the draws against Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are good games to judge the players. Clearly, at this moment we can’t go into the games to dominate these types of games to think can go and win then. Dominating to go and win them.
“At this moment we haven’t managed to achieve that, apart from against Arsenal. I am referring to the first half of the Arsenal game, as the second half was with a player more.”
For Leeds to dominate Arsenal at the time was a big surprise, but as the season has progressed it seems that there is actually little to pick between the two sides.
Leeds are actually ahead of Arsenal by a point in the Premier League standings, although Arteta’s side main priority currently is the Europa League, as they have progressed to the semi-final.
