Spotify founder Daniel Ek made headlines on Friday by getting involved in Arsenal’s ownership debate.

The Swedish billionaire – worth $4.7B according to Forbes, around £3.4million – tweeted that he would be interested in buying Arsenal.

Ek claimed that he grew up supporting Arsenal and has been cheering for the club ever since, so would be keen to purchase the club if Stan Kroenke is willing to sell.

Some wondered if this was just Ek joking around, but The Telegraph claim that his interest is very genuine and not a public relations stunt at all.

Ek is ready to enter negotiations with Kroenke and co in an attempt to purchase his boyhood club, with Kroenke looking for around £2million.

That makes it unlikely that Ek will be able to purchase the club on his own, but as part of a consortium, it could just work.

Kroenke hasn’t been popular at Arsenal for a while now, but last week’s attempt to join the European Super League is the final straw for many supporters.

Ek represents an exciting alternative given his love for the club, and he is someone to keep an eye on with Kroenke under fire.
