Craig Burley has warned Julian Nagelsmann that he would ‘lower’ himself by joining Tottenham, as he told ESPN.

The former Scotland international claimed that there is a ‘ceiling’ at Tottenham and the current RB Leipzig coach should wait for better offers.

The Times report that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is an admirer of the highly-rated coach whose stock is rising in his native Germany.

It’s not been long since Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho and Burley feels that Nagelsmann has ‘different ideas’ to the trophy-laden coach.

“This is the complete polar opposite to what has been hired and sacked at Tottenham,” said Burley.

“Different ideas. A different way of playing. Different mentality, so the only way you would imagine would be up. The only thing I would say is that there is a ceiling at Tottenham with what they can achieve.

“Man City will still be strong. We will see Liverpool go again when all those players are back fit and healthy next season. Man United aren’t going to do anything with Solskjaer. Chelsea aren’t changing manager.

“He is jumping into a very good club, into a club that I don’t know whether it would be best for him to wait. It would be a great appointment for Tottenham and their fans. I am just not quite sure, with this man’s reputation, he needs to lower himself with his resume to go to Spurs.”

At the age of only, 33, Nagelsmann would be the youngest coach in the Premier League if he were to swap Leipzig for London.

But he wouldn’t be the youngest since 1992 simply because the man currently in Tottenham’s dugout – Ryan Mason – now holds that title at the age of 29.

Levy has been down the route of going for that experienced coach with a history of trophy success and it didn’t work.

So, taking the younger approach once more, just like he did with Mauricio Pochettino, might just appease the fans and suit the players currently at the club.
