Noel Whelan has said on BBC Radio Leeds (3:54pm, April 25, 2021) that Leeds United central defender Pascal Struijk was brilliant against Manchester United today.

Leeds have played out a goalless draw with United at Elland Road in the Premier League this afternoon.

It was not the most entertaining of games, although things became lively after the break.

Former Leeds striker Whelan was following the match for BBC Radio Leeds, and he believes that 21-year-old centre-back Struijk was the best player on the pitch at Elland Road.

Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds (4:54pm, April 25, 2021): “He was the Man of the Match for me. Absolutely solid as a rock back there., on the ball, off the ball, covering round, even from defensive positions when you are talking about corners and free kicks, marking Harry Maguire, England captain, probably their most attacking threat from set pieces, he has done excellent today.”

How did Pascal Struijk play for Leeds United?

Leeds were very good at the back and kept the United attackers at bay, and one of the main reasons behind that was the performance of Struijk.

The 21-year-old Dutchman did not try anything fancy, kept things simple at the back, and defended strongly.

According to WhoScored, the youngster took one shot which was not on target, had a pass accuracy of 80.6%, won one header, took 52 touches, and made five tackles, three interceptions and four clearances. Leeds will be pleased with the final result.
