Tam McManus has claimed that Rangers could move on James Tavernier during the summer if Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard receive an £8 million offer for the club captain.

Tavernier has been unbelievable for Rangers in a season that saw Gerrard’s side ghost past Celtic en route to their first Scottish Premiership title since 2011.

The 29-year-old defender is only back from a two-month absence with a knee injury and in his place, Ibrox academy star Nathan Patterson has established himself as a real star of the future.

Tavernier, who has netted 17 goals from right-back this season, turns 30 in October and has been no stranger to speculation about a return to English football in recent years.

And if Rangers receive offers for their skipper, McManus has told PLZ Soccer that Gerrard and director of football Wilson could very easily cash in.

McManus said: “Nathan Patterson’s been absolutely outstanding. Tavernier is what, 29? It might be a case of Rangers, if they get £8 million or £10 million for him, would they cash in and take the money? Once he gets to 31 and 32, you won’t be able to sell him.”

Light Blues fans won’t even be thinking about the prospect of losing Tavernier.

As his goal tally suggests, he is invaluable for Rangers and has really stepped up the defensive side of his game this season.
