Norwich City boss Daniel Farke has warned Max Aarons about the dangers of a summer move after West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton were all reported to be interested, speaking to the Pink Un.
The crux of Farke’s argument is simple. Why should the England U21 international leave Carrow Road for a club where he could spend most weekends watching from the bench?
Aarons has started 42 of Norwich’s 43 games this season after all, playing a key role as the Canaries cruised to promotion at the first time of asking.
If he stays in East Anglia, the coveted right-back would be a Premier League regular in 2021/22. The same guarantees can’t be made by the likes of West Ham or Everton, however, where Vladimir Coufal and Seamus Coleman would offer serious competition.
“From our side, there’s no intention to do anything. He is one of our best players, a key player for our success. Why should we send him away?” Farke asked when questioned over Aarons’ future.
“Also, if I was to walk in his shoes, what we can offer right now is a club that totally trusts him, a head coach who totally trusts him, teammates who love him, fans who love him.
“He will play in the best league in the world next season and has a good chance to play many, many minutes. It’s a great chance for him and us to shine at the top level.
“It makes no sense to travel to a different club where he might be able to earn a few more pounds. My gut feeling is it makes no sense at his age to move somewhere where he is a back-up.
“For me, he has the potential and quality to play for the best clubs in the world.”
This week, the Press Association reported Norwich want £30 million for Aarons. The one-time Luton Town youngster would also prefer to stay in the south of England, which could rule out a potential switch to Goodison Park.
The report adds Tottenham have been interested in Aarons since the Mauricio Pochettino days.
