Duncan Castles has claimed on The Transfer Window Podcast that Celtic have made an offer to Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho is without a managerial job at the moment, having recently been sacked by Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.
Neil Lennon parted company with Celtic in February, with John Kennedy placed in charge of the first team until the end of the season.
Castles, who is a well-known and well-respected journalist, said on The Transfer Window Podcast: “My information is that the first of those approaches came from Celtic Football Club who are in need of significant managerial change and are in need of a change of fortune to get themselves back on top of the heap in Scotland after Steven Gerrard guided Rangers to the Scottish title by a significant margin.
“My understanding is that his response to that approach from Celtic – not ready to coach now. There have been other offers.”

Blockbuster managerial appointment
That Celtic have reportedly approached Mourinho shows how much ambition they have to get back to the top in Scotland.
Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title last month and could end the season unbeaten.
Celtic have had a torrid campaign, and it is very encouraging to see that the Hoops are at least trying to bring in a big-name manager.
Mourinho in charge of Celtic going head-to-head with Rangers manager Steven Gerrard next season would be box office.
The Portuguese does not seem ready to start work now, which is understandable as he has only just been relieved of his duties at Spurs and probably needs some time.
Perhaps Celtic should go back to Mourinho next month and see if he would be interested then.
