Former Spurs striker Darren Bent feels Brendan Rodgers would not leave Leicester City to replace Jose Mourinho at Tottenham, as he told talkSPORT (20 April, 8.30am).

How many players in this current Spurs squad would get into Leicester’s starting XI?

Harry Kane certainly (sorry Kelechi Iheanacho) and probably Heung Min-Son. Apart from that, it’s difficult to imagine Davinson Sanchez replacing Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ousting Wilfried Ndidi or Tanguy Ndombele taking the place of Youri Tielemens.

And they do say the table never lies.

As it stands, Leicester are four places and six points better off than a now managerless-Spurs side – with a game in hand to boot. Super League not permitting, it’s the Foxes, not Tottenham, who will be sitting at Europe’s top table next term.

So Bent is wondering why Brendan Rodgers would ever be tempted to swap an exciting, forward-thinking, youthful Leicester side for a Tottenham team seemingly heading in the wrong direction

“Rodgers at Leicester, he’s a fantastic manager. But if you look at the squad, Leicester have a better squad. (Tottenham) have probably got the best player in Kane but, other than that, Leicester are better,” Bent said.

“Tielemans, Maddison and Ndidi; that’s top, top drawer. So I can’t see Rodgers leaving.

“Who’s going to appease the spurs fans? It’s going to have to be someone from (the Mauricio Pochettino) ilk. You always here about ‘The Spurs Way’. Jose Mourinho certainly wasn’t that.

“The only one I can think of is Rodgers but I don’t think Rodgers leaves Leicester for Spurs.”

According to the Mail, the former Liverpool and Celtic boss has reservations about taking over at the North London giants, fearing a lack of control behind the scenes.
