Danny Murphy does not believe Marcelo Bielsa could be lured away from Leeds United to take over from Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur, speaking to talkSPORT (19 April, 10.30am).
With Jose gone, sacked just days before the Carabao Cup final meeting with Manchester City, could Spurs be tempted to swap the ultimate pragmatist for the game’s most stubborn purist?
The enigmatic Marcelo Bielsa is yet to extend his contract at Elland Road.
And while there is nothing to suggest that the 65-year-old Argentine is a target for the London giants – with the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann dominating the discussions thus far – Bielsa’s potential availability may give Spurs chairman Daniel Levy something to think about.
But, according to former Tottenham midfielder Murphy, there’s little chance that Bielsa could be lured to North London.
His number one priority, when all’s said and done, appears to be agreeing a new deal at a Leeds side he has transformed from Championship also-rans into one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League.
“I don’t think he’d go (to Tottenham),” Murphy said when asked about the former Athletic Club, Chile and Marseille boss, before questioning the ‘timing’ of Mourinho’s exit.

“The timing stinks. It’s not something that would have logically. Something has happened. Theres a trigger for this. Theres no logic in getting rid of him a week before a final.”
With the proposed European Super League dominating the discussion on Monday morning – well, before Mourinho’s dismissal that is – we, for one, cannot wait for Bielsa’s reaction.
It is hard to imagine a man so in love with the very roots of the ‘Beautiful Game’ would have much time for a tournament that places cold hard cash above everything else.
