Scunthorpe United are unlikely to stand in Joey Dawson’s way with the likes of Celtic and Derby County weighing up summer bids, Irons manager Neil Cox told BBC Radio Humberside, via Iron Bru.

He may be the nephew of Nottingham Forest veteran Matthew but, beyond those family ties, there are not too many similarities between Dawsons young and old.

Joey is a striker, unlike his centre-half uncle, and a rather prolific one at that.

The youngster’s record for Scunthorpe’s reserve sides is certainly impressive, with Wayne Rooney’s Derby and Scottish giants Celtic alerted to his potential availability.

Iron Bru reports that Dawson is yet to sign a contract with the League Two outfit and may be tempted to discuss a move away from Glanford Park when the transfer window opens.

“I am aware (of the interest from other clubs),” said Cox.

“And I have had conversations (with Joey). He is a player we have offered a contract to and that’s how we have left it.

“If somebody did come in to us and offer us good money for him, would we stand in his way? We probably wouldn’t because it’s a good opportunity for the boy.”

Celtic certainly have a history when it comes to snapping up promising teenagers from south of the border.

In recent times, Luca Connell, Liam Shaw and Kundai Benyu completed moves to Parkhead, although it is fair to say Dawson would be hoping to do a little better than those who have gone before him.
