Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have announced their split, citing that they are “better as friends.”

The couple got engaged in the Bahamas back in 2019 but began dating two years before that in 2017. Both have been married before and have two children each from previous relationships.

Jennifer and Alex chose to issue a joint statement to Today, where they announced their split and said: “Thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

Why did Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez break up?

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have officially split, calling off their two- year engagement.

They stated that they “are better as friends” but will “continue to work together and support each other” on their shared businesses.

The couple released a joint statement to Today, which reads:

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

Reports that JLO and Alex had called it quits began circulating back in March, but the couple themselves confirmed with Today that the rumours were “inaccurate” and that they were just “working through some things.”

In March 2019 Jennifer and Alex announced their engagement (Alex proposed in the Bahamas) after two years of dating.

Speaking about their relationship back in 2018, Jennifer told Today: “He’s brought something to my life that I’ve never had before, which is an unconditional support and love, kind of a matching of twin souls.”

Jennifer has previously been married to Ojani Noa (1997–1998), Cris Judd (2001–2003) and Marc Anthony (2004–2014). She shares twins Max and Emme with Marc.

Alex also had children from a previous relationship. He was married to Cynthia Scurtis from 2002-2008. Alex and Cynthia share two daughters, Natasha Alexander, and Ella Alexander.
