Paul Merson told Sky Sports that reported West Ham and Aston Villa target, Tammy Abraham, won’t win you the Premier League title.

The outspoken TV pundit thinks the Chelsea man, who is wanted by West Ham and Villa this summer, isn’t going to be in the ‘top five or six’ goalscorers in the league.

After a productive season in Chelsea colours under Frank Lampard last season, Abraham’s game time has reduced this term and especially since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival.

All of that will only fuel the fire of interested parties, such as Champions League-chasing West Ham and his former club, Aston Villa, securing his talents when the transfer window re-opens.

“I like Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud, they are good players, but are they going to win you the Premier League? No,” said Merson.

“And I say that because they are not going to be in the top five or six goal scorers in the league.

“You look at Chelsea now and Mason Mount and Abraham have got six goals and are their joint-top scorers in the league, so that is why Chelsea are where they are.”

It is a little harsh to say that Abraham cannot be amongst the top goalscorers when he was just that last season – netting 15 in 34 league games.

And whilst he only has six during this campaign, he last played 90 minutes against Leicester in January.

If either Villa or West Ham can cough up some serious dough for Abraham’s talents in the summer then they will have a top-quality performer on their hands.

And those in the West Midlands already know what Abraham is capable of after he helped them earn promotion to the Premier League.
