Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after spotting what Gini Wijnaldum was doing in the 89th minute last night.

With Real Madrid camped inside their own box, time was running out for Liverpool to get their two goals needed to progress.

As a fan, you’d want everyone in red paying full attention, showing for the ball and trying to break Zinedine Zidane’s side down as quickly as possible.

So, when Liverpool supporters spotted Wijnaldum kneeling down to tie his laces, they really weren’t happy.

Thiago Alcântara was on the ball, and nearly lost it playing a somewhat short pass to Trent Alexander-Arnold, which was nearly intercepted.

Wijnaldum would’ve offered him a simple option to pass to, but he had ruled himself out of that sequence of play by choosing to tie his laces.

Of course, you can’t blame the Dutchman for doing it. Had he left them undone and tripped over while in possession, he surely would’ve been criticised for that too.

However, Wijnaldum probably should’ve waited for a break in play, in truth.

In fairness to the 30-year-old, he had a good game.

Wijnaldum was brave on the ball, embarking on three successful dribbles as WhoScored shows.

However, he will – sadly – only be remembered in this game for his horrible miss in the first-half, as well as his decision to tie his laces when Jürgen Klopp needed all hands on deck.
