Reported West Ham United and Southampton target Yangel Herrera has admits to facing an uncertain future at Manchester City while expressing his admiration for Paul Pogba, speaking to Ideal.
Father Time himself must be watching on awe as Fernandinho continues to dominate games at the highest level whenever he is called upon by Pep Guardiola.
36-year-old central midfielders are not supposed to play the game with such a speed and a swagger, after all.
But, despite the fine recent form of their evergreen Brazilian, Fernandinho still looks set to follow Sergio Aguero out the door when his contract expires in July.
Could Herrera, 13 years Fernandinho’s junior, replace one of the most influential players in Manchester City’s history.
The Sun suggests that, well, yes he could.
City’s scouts are big fans of a Venezuela international who has taken La Liga by storm during two years on loan at Granada (8 April, page 50).
“(City) are always looking out for me, in every game,” says Herrera, who joined Pep Guardiola’s side from Atletico Venezuela in 2017.
“I focus on the day to day. That is what has led me to where I am now. Now I don’t think if I’m going to go there (to the Etihad) or not. I try to do well in Granada and, in the future, we will see if I can play there.”

The Sun reports that, if there is no space for him in Guardiola’s star-studded team, West Ham or Southampton could step in and offer the £13 million-rated Herrera a chance in the Premier League.
With a career-best eight goals to his name in 2020/21, Herrera has made a name for himself as a reliable source of productivity from midfield.
But the youngster says there is more to his game than that, insisting that he can do a job at both ends of the pitch.
“Do not be confused. This year has been good in terms of goals but I am a midfielder who can play both sides (of the game),” the box-to-box Herrera adds.
“Pogba and Busquets (are my idols). I look at their way of playing, they do things well and play at a high-level year after year. I like to watch them and learn.”
