According to La Voix Du Nord, Everton are fighting Arsenal in the race for Valenciennes defender Ismael Doukoure.
It’s claimed that a host of clubs want to sign Doukoure, with the likes of Barcelona, Benfica, Juventus and Roma also keen.
A fee of around €8million (£7million) would be need to lure Doukoure away from Valenciennes, with the teenager a wanted man.
The 17-year-old has been branded the next Dayot Upamecano, another talented defender who emerged in the Valenciennes ranks.
Everton do already have a couple of talented young centre backs in Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey, but this rumour does add up given the speculation surrounding Yerry Mina.
The Sun report that Mina fancies a move to Italy, with Inter Milan and Fiorentina both keen to give him a switch to Serie A.
The Colombian has picked up yet another injury, and it’s feasible that Everton decide to part ways with him this summer and bring in another defender.
Now, many would expect a bigger name to arrive, but maybe Everton plan to use Godfrey alongside Michael Keane or Holgate, and then have Doukoure developing behind them.
At £7million, Doukoure could be a bargain signing for Everton, but they’ll have to beat Arsenal to his signature.
