Lille’s Mike Maignan is Tottenham Hotspur’s number one goalkeeping target this summer, Tuttomercatoweb reports amid claims linking Jose Mourinho’s side with Sam Johnstone and Koen Casteels.
While Hugo Lloris was largely blameless on Sunday, as Spurs fell apart again after half-time to lose 3-1 at home to Manchester United, the 34-year-old has certainly endured his fair share of miserable moments in a testing 2021.
And, with high-profile blunders against the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Everton still fresh in the mind, the early signs suggest that a new number one will be right at the top of Tottenham’s summer wishlist.
Lloris will be 35 before the year is out, after all. And, almost a decade after the former Lyon ace forced the evergreen Brad Friedel out of the picture, the same fate could now befall him.
The Athletic reports that Tottenham have expressed their interest in Sam Johnstone, the overworked West Brom ace who was rewarded for his superb form with a first ever a call-up to the England national team in March.
Koen Casteels, the rock at the heart of Wolfsburg’s Champions League charge, is another target (Mail).

According to Tuttomercatoweb, however, Mike Maignan is the number one choice, with Tottenham joining AC Milan in making the feline Frenchman a priority target.
Maignan, potentially the most expensive of the three at around £16 million, has been arguably the best shot-stopper in Ligue 1 this season, producing a series of heroic performances for a Lille side looking to steal the crown from PSG’s head.
Interestingly enough, Lloris raved about his fellow France international just last month.
“Mike is levelling up season after season,” said Lloris, as quoted by Le10 Sport. “He took even more importance in the performances of Lille. He won (the club) some important points at times.
“He is one of the goalkeepers of tomorrow. Mike is very ambitious – he wants to be challenged at a high level.”
