According to The Telegraph, Everton misfit Muhamed Besic is being targeted by Reading ahead of his contract expiring.

It’s claimed that the Royals wanted to sign Besic in the January transfer window, but could not get a deal done.

Besic’s contract ends this summer, meaning he will be free to go – and Reading are now hoping to get him in this time.

The 28-year-old hasn’t played for Everton since 2017, and has barely seen seen with the Toffees since his loan spell with Sheffield United ended last summer.

Everton clearly have no plans to give Besic a new contract, and a deal should now be easier for Reading to pull off.

Besic cost Everton £4million in 2014, raiding Hungarian side Ferencvaros after he had impressed at the World Cup in Brazil, but the Toffees are now set to lose it all as he leaves for free.

There were once high hopes for Besic; Roberto Martinez branded him ‘phenomenal’ and even felt that he could become a ‘big legend’ at Goodison Park.

That hasn’t happened, and Besic needs a fresh start – which could now come at Reading under Serbian boss Veljko Paunovic.
