Is the Powerpuff Girls live-action series release date confirmed? Let’s explore The CW’s forthcoming reboot of the iconic cartoon.

There are plenty of classic Cartoon Network shows that never fail to inspire nostalgia in 90s kids, like Johnny Bravo, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Cow and Chicken and Courage the Cowardly Dog.

However, many would declare The Powerpuff Girls their unwavering favourite.

Created by Craig McCracken, the show debuted on Cartoon Network back in 1998 and introduced the world to the superpowered titular trio: Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup.

They are the product of one of Professor Utonium’s experiments, in which he tried to create the perfect little girl by mixing “sugar, spice, and everything nice”. However, he accidentally added “Chemical X” into the mix and the Powerpuff Girls were unleashed.

The final episode aired in 2005, but a new vision is in the works. So, does the Powerpuff Girls live-action series have a release date yet?

Powerpuff Girls: Live-action release date confirmed?

  • A release date for The CW’s live-action Powerpuff Girls series is yet to be confirmed. It will likely premiere in fall 2021.

ScreenRant highlights that filming began in early April of this year.

The series comes courtesy of writers Diablo Cody (Juno) and Heather Regnier, with Maggie Kiley serving as director.

In the central roles of the Powerpuff Girls, we have Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault playing Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, respectively.

Additionally, it’s worth addressing that Donald Faison (Scrubs) is attached to star as the girls’ creator, Professor Utonium. Then, much to the appreciation of devoted fans of the original cartoon, Tom Kenny is reprising his role as the series’ narrator.

Variety includes that the series – titled “Powerpuff” – was first announced as being in development back in August 2020.

As of yet, it’s uncertain how many of the iconic villains from the cartoon will make it into the reboot.
