Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Ollie Watkins has been raving over West Ham United star Declan Rice.

The Aston Villa forward was speaking about which players had been impressing him in England training over the international break, and Watkins said that Rice has been exceptional.

“Mason Mount is another one who is consistent. He’s always top in training, he never goves the ball away and makes things look easy,” Rice said.

“Declan Rice as well who I think is massively underrated, I think he’s like a Rolls Royce, and that says it all really.”

Rice is often touted as one of the best midfielders in the country, so the fact that Watkins thinks he’s underrated says a lot.

Because of the way he plays, he can often go under the radar. He’s not the flashiest midfielder who will grab you double figured in terms of goals or assists, but he’s a consistently brilliant holding player who is great on the ball.

It seems as though this season has been massive for Rice in terms of getting more recognition from the wider footballing world, and it has to be said, he deserves all of the plaudits coming his way.
