Reported Southampton and Brighton target Georgios Giakoumakis will leave VVV-Venlo after a stunning Eredivisie season, director of football Stan Valckx has admitted in conversation with BN DeStem.
Before he moved to the Netherlands in summer 2020, the late-blooming striker had scored just 25 goals in 148 club appearances.
So even Derren Brown would have been hard pushed to predict the sensational impact Giakoumakis has made at VVV.
In just 30 matches for the Venlo-based outfit, the Greece international has found the net 27 times.
VVV may be struggling near the bottom of the table but, with Giakoumakis rearranging his mantelpiece to find space for the Eredivisie Golden Boot award, one of Europe’s hottest hit-men is all-but certain to be rewarded with a big summer move.
A few weeks ago, TEAMtalk reported Southampton, Brighton and Championship table-toppers Norwich City are all interested.
Giakoumakis, a rangy, skilful centre-forward with an eye for the spectacular, may just be playing Premier League football in 2021/22.

“We assume Georgios will leave for a good price in the summer. And he deserves that after such a good season,” says Valckx.
VVV-Venlo turned down a bid in the region of £4 million from Birmingham City during the January transfer window (Gazzetta).
So it remains to be seen what Valckx deems a “good price”.
