Rangers want to sign Morecambe winger Carlos Mendes Gomes – but could now face a battle to land him.
The Gers have contacted Morecambe about a deal for Mendes Gomes according to The Scottish Sun, having watched him on a number of occasions.
Mendes Gomes is out of contract at the end of the season, but Rangers may have simply been polite in telling Morecambe that they intend to talk to the Spaniard.
Now though, The Sunday Mirror (11/04, p68) report that Rangers face a battle with Blackburn Rovers for his signature.
It’s claimed that Rovers are looking to make a summer swoop for Mendes Gomes, whilst a number of other Championship clubs are keen.
Blackburn will be closer to Mendes Gomes’ current base, but the chance to play for Rangers is something that he surely couldn’t have expected.

Yes, the 22-year-old started out with Atletico Madrid, but he ended up at West Didsbury and Chorlton in Manchester before heading to Morecambe.
With 12 goals this season, Mendes Gomes has been a star for Morecambe, and Rangers will be hoping to see off Rovers and secure his signature.
