According to Bild, Liverpool are in the final stages of a deal for Ibrahima Konaté, who is also on Tottenham’s radar.

The German news outlet claim that Liverpool are just analysing the data one last time, as the 21-year-old has a colourful injury history.

It was The Telegraph who claimed that Tottenham were keen on Konaté.

However, it now looks like José Mourinho will miss out, as the Reds close in on the signing of the Frenchman for a lower fee than originally mentioned.

As Bild state, the fee for Konaté initially seemed to be over €40 million (£34.7 million).

However, Bild now say that the deal is worth something in the region of €32.5 million – €34 million (£27.2 million – £29.5 million).

It is a fantastic signing for Liverpool.

The Paris-born defender is one of the biggest prospects in Europe.

The Bundesliga’s official website likened Konaté’s playing style to that of Virgil van Dijk, and also wrote that he ‘makes it look easy’ at the back.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham do anything with this information.

If Mourinho really is keen on RB Leipzig’s No.6, then perhaps he could talk to Daniel Levy about submitting an offer worth more than Liverpool’s.

Spurs will have to move quickly though, as the deal looks very much in Liverpool’s favour – if Bild are to be trusted.
