Speaking on the SFeatleyTV YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on Arsenal’s summer transfer plans.
The journalist gave an update on the Gunners’ pursuit of a right-back, claiming that the London club will definitely be signing a new player in that position, while he also provided an update on their pursuit of a centre-half.
“I can say that 100% Arsenal will buy a new right-back. This is something sure. They are working on the name, you know, they have a list. A player who was appreciated was Tariq Lamptey, but he’s not the first option. There’s nothing advanced and I think Arsenal will go for a different kind of player at right-back. So no Lamptey, but a different one,” Romano said.
“I’ve seen a lot of rumours about Hakimi, but it is not easy to buy Hakimi, guys. He is doing so well with Inter, they’re close to winning the league. If Conte stays as Inter manager it will be tough for them to sell Hakimi, so they will go for a right-back for sure.”

The journalist then went on to speak about the Gunners’ pursuit of a centre-half, speculating that they may sign a new central defender, but that may be one they look at later in the window.
“Yes, for the centre-back what I am told is that they’re waiting until June or July for opportunities, because the market for centre-backs this summer will be so particular,” Romano said.
“All the top clubs are looking for a centre-back. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich signed Upamecano, here in Italy too, also in the Premier League you have Chelsea looking for a centre-back, Man City as always, Manchester United too, Liverpool’s situation with centre-backs is complicated. It will be a domino market for a centre-back, and that’s why Arsenal are waiting.”

It seems as though the Gunners really want to bolster their defence this summer.
Of course, who they sign remains to be seen, but it’s exciting to hear that there are plans in place.
Mikel Arteta’s side’s defence has been an issue for quite some time now, and we can only hope that they make the necessary signings to shore things up at the back.
