The season finale of Sisyphus: The Myth has just premiered on Netflix, but will the hit K-drama return for season 2 and if so, when could it air?

Today, fans of Korean series on Netflix had to say goodbye to two great shows, Hello Me and Sisyphus: The Myth.

The latter series, Sisyphus, has wowed fans with an expertly crafted, intertwining story that mixed time travel with love story brilliantly.

However, with the season finale airing today on Netflix, fans around the world are desperate to know if and when Sisyphus will be making a return for season 2.

Sisyphus: The Myth season 2…

  • At the time of writing, Sisyphus: The Myth has not been officially renewed for a second season by Drama House or JTBC Studios.

Following the season finale of Sisyphus, it is currently unclear whether or not the K-drama will return for another adventure.

On the one hand, the finale did leave enough of the plotlines open for the story to continue in some capacity in a second season, or potentially a spin-off within the same universe.

Despite the official Netflix viewership statistics not being available to the public, Sisyphus season 1 has performed fairly well in South Korea; with episodes averaging 4th place in the national standards.

The series has also scored well on various fan websites; gaining a 7.2/10 on IMDB, 8.1/10 on MyDramaList and 90% on AsianWiki – arguably enough to warrant a renewal.

However, the vast majority of 16-episode Korean series are only ever designed to run for just one season. Plus, if a second season was being planned, we would have expected that information to be revealed by now.

For now, fans will just have to wait and see what the future holds for Sisyphus: The Myth.

Sisyphus season 2: Release date

As the series is yet to be renewed, an official release date for Sisyphus: The Myth season 2 has not been confirmed. However, we can speculate on when a second season could potentially debut based on the production schedule for season 1.

The writers for Sisyphus began working on the series in 2016, but the production was delayed due to complications arising with contract disputes with the studio.

Following the transition to JTBC Studios, the main cast was confirmed in September 2019. Filming then started in May 2020 and finished in December 2020, following a brief Covid-related delay.

Assuming that Sisyphus season 2 would follow a similar schedule (bar the studio transition), fans could the K-drama return as soon as December 2021 or January 2022.

The two problems here is that the series has not yet been officially renewed and the writers would need time to create a script that could meet the standards set by season 1.

This article will be updated as soon as more information on Sisyphus: The Myth season 2 is revealed, so keep checking back in for the latest updates.
