Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has personally asked for RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer to be brought in, according to The Express.

It’s claimed that Mourinho is desperate to strengthen his midfield, and Sabitzer is high on his list of targets for the summer.

Sabitzer has just over a year left on his Leipzig deal, and Bild claim that he won’t be extending his stay with the German side.

That report suggested that Liverpool want to sign Sabitzer this summer, but it’s Tottenham who appear to be his most likely destination.

Spurs may hope to tempt Leipzig into taking cash before Sabitzer leaves for nothing in 2022, but the threat of Liverpool being in the race will be a concern.

Sabitzer has great versatility; he has played as a central midfielder, holding midfielder, attacking midfielder and even right winger at Leipzig.

That has to be appealing to Mourinho and Klopp, as does the fact that Sabitzer has been branded a ‘mentality monster’ – a quality that both men value highly.

Mourinho will hope that his personal plea will accelerate a move for Sabitzer, but the truth is that Mourinho’s future at Tottenham is far from secure.

If he ends up leaving Spurs in the near future, Liverpool could end up as new favourites for Sabitzer, especially with a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum needed.
