Jamie Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that Jesse Lingard produced something ‘similar to Berbatov’ during West Ham’s 3-2 win at Wolves.

It wasn’t just a game full of goals, but the quality on show was even more incredible, especially from the Manchester United loanee.

After scoring a stunning solo goal to open the scoring for West Ham, Lingard then made a darting run down the left flank, spun Semedo, flicked the ball over him which fed the ball to Arthur Masuaku, who assisted Pablo Fornals.

Lingard’s piece of skill wasn’t too different to what Berbatov produced in such a majestic fashion many, many years ago, ironically enough against the Hammers.

“This (second goal) is similar to Dimitar Berbatov doing something similar on the byline like Jesse Lingard does here,” said Carragher. “This brilliant turn. I think it’s on Semedo there.

“But again, massively involved, Jesse Lingard. We might have to change our England squads (after leaving Lingard out).

On Lingard’s solo goal: “Listen, it’s a brilliant goal. But what I would say is that this guy (Coufal), who I absolutely love in that position is going to get the assist for that.

“But the bigger assist comes from this man, Michail Antonio because he makes a run (in the opposite direction of Lingard). He wants that pass from Lingard. If he doesn’t make that run then Lingard doesn’t score that goal. And it drags Conor Coady out of the way.”

Lingard is talk of London because he has helped elevate a team fighting for those Champions League places.

West Ham are in control and destiny, as thing stands, is in their own hands.

And if the Old Trafford academy product can help West Ham to a top-four finish then it would be a masterstroke of a loan spell from the Englishman.
