This isn’t a case of Arsenal being in this situation for a few months, they have been mid-table and in the bottom half all season long.

And when Lehmann was asked to deliver his thoughts on Arteta’s future at Arsenal, he issued a pretty blunt response.

“Imagine Arsene Wenger would have ended up where they are right now,” said Lehmann.

“They probably wouldn’t have accepted that. But with a guy like Mikel Arteta they do.”

Well, Arteta has a Europa League clash against Slavia Prague to deal with on Thursday and it’s a must-win.

Arsenal have to progress, else they can write their season off because they aren’t getting into the European places via the Premier League.

If that situation does occur, it will be interesting to see what type of reaction Arteta gets, both from the supporters and those in the boardroom.
