The Black Clover series has just concluded with episode 170, but is the anime really ending for good or will it return after the movie?
Fans of both anime and manga are pretty accustomed to bombshells of new information dropping out of nowhere.
However, one of the larger bombshells of this year has been the conclusion of the Black Clover anime series.
There had been numerous rumours that the anime series may take a hiatus circulating social media for the past few months.
Now, with the series finale releasing today for free on Crunchyroll, we take a look at the fate of the Black Clover anime.
Is the Black Clover anime ending?
- The Black Clover TV anime series has officially ended with episode 170 and will be followed by an anime movie, but it has yet to be confirmed that the series will return after this.
The finale announcement was made on the official Black Clover anime Twitter page earlier in March, which stated that the “final broadcast” i.e., episode 170, will be on March 30th, 2021.
The tweet was accompanied by a special teaser trailer, which showed some images from earlier in the series of both Asta and Yami.
Following the news, it was also revealed that the production team will be making a “serious announcement after the final broadcast.”
However, only a matter of days before the finale, it was confirmed that a Black Clover anime movie will be produced.

Is Black Clover series ending permanently?
At the time of writing, it has not been officially confirmed that the anime series will return for episode 171. However, despite there being no official confirmation, it is highly likely that the series will return for more episodes.
The movie will likely adapt the remaining chapters in the Spade Kingdom Raid arc and be used to tie over BC content until the manga can produce more source material.
This decision would have surely been influenced by the success of Demon Slayer and its recent season 1 successor movie ‘Mugen Train’ – which broke countless records in Japan and likely turned a pretty penny for the franchise.
Following the movie, it is assumed that the series will still continue and shift towards a seasonal production schedule.
Interestingly, the synopsis for episode 170 has surfaced online, with the final line being “a new story begins now!” – which suggests that this is not the end for the series.
The voice actor for Yuno, Shimazaki Nobunaga, also said on Twitter, “I don’t think it’s goodbye!” and that fans should look forward to the upcoming special announcement.
This article will be updated as soon as more information is revealed.
